Grinter Place - Exhibits

Moses and Annie Grinter completed their two-story red brick home in 1857 on a hill overlooking the Kansas River. The oldest home in Wyandotte County, the house is constructed with home-kilned bricks on the exterior and native walnut and white pine on the interior. A parlor, dining room, central hall, kitchen, and three fireplaces are Two family Bibles setting on bench at end of quilted bedlocated on the first floor. The second floor consists of a parlor, two bedrooms, and two fireplaces.

The rooms are furnished to resemble those occupied by the Grinters from 1875 to 1900. Only a few of these items belonged to the Grinter family; the rest are antiques authentic to the era. Visitors can see:

  • Tall cupboard with open shelves, which Moses acquired in trade when a client could not pay the ferry fee
  • Table with decorative pattern; a Grinter family piece
  • Two Grinter family Bibles
  • Annie’s quilt blocks
  • Grinter family photographs
  • Lounge with crazy quilt
  • Union cavalry sword
  • Violin
