Abstract: The collection mostly consists of compiled information and notes from George A. Root regarding the names of counties in Kansas. He included information about establishing counties, why they were named as they were, when and why names changed, and other such information. It includes notes about Arapahoe County and the geographical area that became part of Colorado. Also in the collection are some biographical notes from Helen Gertrude Gill and a paper titled What's in a Name?, The Formation of Kansas Counties and How They Received Their Names, presented by James Hanni at the Topeka Jayhawker Club, September 20, 2017.
