Abstract: The collection consists of assembled materials from various sources regarding the history of rivers, and peoples' use of them, in Kansas. The collection is divided into three series based upon the river: Arkansas River, Kansas River, and Missouri River. It includes citations from newspapers from Cowley, Sedgwick, and Sumner counties; bibliographies and research notes; a copy of testimony from the 1905 case United States vs. the Chicago, Rock Island, & Pacific Railway Company et al.; broadsides and timecards for steamboats and steamers; waybills for the Evening Star from 1867; correspondence regarding steamboat wrecks; and other miscellaneous materials.
