Scope and content: The following correspondence pertains to matters related to the Penitentiary in Kansas. A letter on February 20, 1874, from A. J. Angell, President of Board of Directors of the Kansas State Penitentiary, forwards statements and conditions of accounts related to the boarding and clothing of U. S. Civil prisoners for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 1873. A letter on February 16, 1876, from Henry Hopkins, Warden of the Penitentiary, encloses copies of the opinion of Judge Foster, U. S. Court, and Attorney General Randolph concerning the discharge of certain prisoners from the Penitentiary because of an error in a sentence.
