Scope and content: These documents include an order of county arrest from the State of Kansas, Leavenworth for John Wells for the death of William N. Maddell. Included in the file is a letter from the Sherriff of Leavenworth county asking Governor St. John to offer an award for the arrest of John Wells. There is a letter from an individual from Sidney, Iowa who writes to the governor to inform him of the arrest of John Wells and if Kansas will pay the reward offered.
