Scope and content: These letters, spanning May 1st-5th, 1885, are from the state dental examiners regarding the fourth member of their board to Kansas Governor John Martin. M. Marsh, A. M. Callahan, and W. H. Mitchell wrote recommending dentists to be the fourth member on the board for the state dental examiners. The Kansas Dental Board began as the State Board of Dental Examiners in 1885. It consisted of four practicing dentists who were residents of Kansas. They were appointed by the governor and served four-year terms. The board was abolished in 1943 upon the creation of the Kansas Dental Board.
