Scope and content: These letters, spanning 1885, are from various government and company officials regarding the establishment of an Industrial Reformatory School in Hutchinson, Kansas to Kansas Governor John Martin. Individuals wrote discussing the appointment of themselves and others to the commission for the reformatory school. The Kansas State Industrial Reformatory (KSIR) school came into existence in 1885 when Governor John Martin signed a bill that the State Legislature had passed, authorizing the purchase of land to be donated in order to build a reformatory.
