Scope and content: These letters, spanning the month of January 1887, are from the Franklin County, Kansas District Court, surveyor, and attorney regarding the county surveyor to Kansas Governor John Martin. A. C. Titus, the county surveyor, wrote to turn in his resignation. The county attorney, John D. Deford, made the resignation official, opening a vacancy. The District Court made a recommendation of A. M. Baum as the successor. Franklin County was one of the first 33 counties organized by the Territorial Legislature in 1855.
