Scope and content: These letters, spanning April 1888, are from the offices and residents of Jefferson County regarding the county surveyor to Kansas Governor John Martin. There are three letters. O. Hosford wrote his resignation from the county surveyor. The other two letters are also signed petitions from the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners and county clerk offices choosing Thomas Riggs to succeed Hosford. Jefferson county was one of the original 33 counties created by the Territorial Legislature. It was organized on March 27, 1856 and named for Thomas Jefferson.
