Scope and content: These letters, spanning the month of June, 1886, are from the residents and offices of McPherson County, Kansas regarding the county surveyor to Kansas Governor John Martin. There was a vacancy for the county surveyor due to the removal of the current one, Frank Harsh. One letter is from a resident, W. B. Kelly, endorsing Arvine Bass as the successor. The second letter is from the county clerk office recommending Arvine Bass as well. McPherson County was organized on March 1, 1870 and named for Civil War General James McPherson.
