Scope and Content

Scope and content: These letters, spanning 1885 to 1887, are from the residents and offices of Miami County, Kansas regarding the county surveyor to Kansas Governor John Martin. The resignations of two county surveyors, R. Boyd and J. E. Wright, are included. Other letters are from residents endorsing candidates and from the county clerk's office with signed official petitions appointing the county surveyor, J. E. Wright. J. E. Wright's resignation, two years later in 1887, is included. Miami County was originally named Lykins County when created as one of the original 33 by the Territorial Legislature in 1855. The county was not organized until April 2, 1857.
