Scope and content: These letters, dated September 21 to October 25, 1886, are from the residents of Morton County, Kansas regarding the temporary county seat to Kansas Governor John Martin. The residents requested that Richfield be the temporary county seat for Morton. Morton County was organized on November 17,1886 and named for Indiana Governor, and later U. S. Senator, Oliver P. Morton.
