Scope and content: These letters, spanning 1885 to 1888, are from the residents and offices of Pawnee County, Kansas regarding the county sheriff and coroner to Kansas Governor John Martin. B. L. Keeney wrote his resignation from the county sheriff. Signed petitions appoint M. D. Pennyworth as the successor. Another signed petition appoints W. M. Rhea to the county coroner position which was vacant from the removal of J. B. Ingles. Pawnee County was organized on November 4, 1872 and named for the Pawnee Indians.
