Scope and content: These letters, spanning 1885 to 1888, are from residents of Kansas regarding the Bender family to Kansas Governor John Martin. The letters discuss criminal rewards, the whereabouts of the family, and descriptions of family members, especially "old man" Bender. Many letters claim that family members have been found. In the early 1870s, townspeople thought the Benders were the latest victims, but a search of their farm revealed the Benders were serial killers.
