Scope and content: These letters, spanning 1885 to 1886, are from county offices and residents of Kansas regarding criminal rewards to Kansas Governor John Martin. Various residents, county sheriffs, and county attorneys wrote asking about and claiming rewards for individual criminals. Among the letters, there are official rewards and newspaper clippings discussing crimes. Kansas currently has 105 counties. 28 other counties have existed but are now defunct due to name changes, reorganizations, or mergers and splits.
