“Assembling a Buckle of the Bible Belt: From Enclave to Powerhouse”

Speaker: Jay Price

Comparing the religious demographics of Wichita between 1950 and 2000, one might mistakenly think they are looking at two different cities separated by a few states rather than the same city separated by a few decades. Understanding how that transformation took place and, just as significant, how that transformation changed the city, provides insights into the dynamics that shape our world today. Doing so involves moving beyond the sensational headlines to understand large themes and ideas that often reflected changes in everyday life in what some have thought of as a Buckle of the Bible Belt.

This program will also stream live on the Kansas Historical Society YouTube channel.
