Anna and Anton Feldt

Photo of a Large Pile of Wheat, 1957

Doralee Feldt submitted this photograph of her grandparents on their farm west of Park, Kansas, in Gove County.

Anna and Anton Feldt pose on a large pile of wheat, Gove County, 1957.

The photo shows Anna Reinert Feldt (left), Anton Feldt (right), and an unidentified hired man (background) standing on a large pile of newly harvested wheat in 1957. It had been a very successful harvest, so the grain surplus had to be stored outside on the farm. The long arm at right is an auger, which was used to move the wheat from a grain truck onto the ground.

"Harvest Tales" is part of the online exhibit, Wheat People:  Celebrating Kansas Harvest.
