Carl Nordstrom

Public Servant. Born: March 5, 1916, Topeka, Kansas.

Carl Nordstrom was born on March 5, 1916, in Topeka, Shawnee County, to parents Edward and Betty Nordstrom.

Nordstrom graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University. After college graduation he joined the staff of the Kansas Legislative Research Department.

From 1942 to 1945 Nordstrom served in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in the Pacific. He was discharged after that as lieutenant senior grade.

Nordstom was active in legislative issues like product liability law, reforms to unemployment compensation, job expansion and investment credit act, and other economic development and job creation incentives.

Nordstrom has been director of the Kansas Association of Commerce and Industry, cofounder of Leadership Kansas, president of Washburn Alumni Association, and research director and executive vice president of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce.

He was named the 1983 Kansan of the Year by Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas. He was inducted into the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame.
