Edward N. Tihen
Born: June 28, 1924, Wichita, Kansas. Died: April 24, 1991, Wichita, Kansas.
Edward N. Tihen was an avid researcher and amateur historian. He created extensive notes on Wichita newspapers that provide an excellent research tools in research. Microfilmed copies of the Wichita Eagle, Wichita Beacon, and Wichita Eagle-Beacon can be found at the Kansas Historical Society, Wichita State University Libraries, and the Wichita Public Library. Two awards are presented in his memory. Funds for the award are provided by the Tihen Endowment, established in 1995 by Dr. Tihen's family and friends in his memory and in appreciation of his role as an amateur historian. The Tihen Publication Award is awarded in odd years to to first-time authors Kansas authors. The total amount available on a biennial basis is $500. The award(s) celebrate works written during the previous two calendar years and are announced in odd years in autumn at the Kansas Historical Foundation annual meeting. The Historical Society reserves the right not to award any Tihen grants based either on the availability of funds or the quality of the applications.
