Jacob LaTurner
Politician. Republican. Born: February 17, 1988, Galena, Kansas. Served in the Kansas Senate, 13th district, January 9, 2013, to April 25, 2017. Served as 40th Treasurer of Kansas, April 25, 2017, to January 2, 2021. Served in the U.S. House of Representatives, second district: January 3, 2021, to present.
Jacob Andrew Joseph LaTurner was born February 17, 1988, in Galena, Kansas. A sixth generation Kansan, he attended Galena High School and competed in sports and academic extra curricular activities. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science at Pittsburg State University. During his time in college, he worked as a district representative for former congresswoman Lynn Jenkins. Following graduation, Jake went on to work for Watco, one of American's top short-line rail companies.
LaTurner married Suzanne Van Gotten in 2009; they have four children. He was elected as the youngest member to serve in the Kansas Senate in 2012. He was appointed Kansas State Treasurer in 2017 by Governor Sam Brownback, replacing Ron Estes, chosen in a special election to fill a vacancy in the U.S. House of Representatives. LaTurner was the youngest statewide elected office in the nation. He was reelected treasurer in 2018. He was elected to serve the second district in the U.S. House in 2020.
