Ramona Lenore Hawkinson Carlin

Ramona Lenore Hawkinson, born January 9, 1942, attended schools in Lindsborg, where she held an active leadership role. She married John Carlin in 1962. She graduated from Bethany College in 1963 with a degree in English. Together they operated a dairy farm in Smolan where she was active in the community and church. They had two children: David and Lisa Carlin.

When he was elected as 40th governor of Kansas, she became First Lady, serving from 1979 to 1980. There she focused on projects involving the family and the arts. She was involved in planning the White House Conference on Families in 1980. Among her other interests were playing the bassoon. John and Ramona Carlin were divorced in November 15, 1980.
