Richard Myers

Richard Bowman Myers was born March 1, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Merriam, Kansas, and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1960. He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University in 1965. He received a master's degree in business from Auburn University in 1977.
Myers entered the U.S. Air Force in 1965 through the Reserve Officers Training Corps program. He was a pilot and rose steadily through the ranks. He served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest uniformed position in the armed forces, from 2001 to 2005, when he retired from the air force.
He was named the Native Sons and Daughters' Distinguished Kansan in 2002. Then on April 20, 2016, Myers was named interim president of Kansas State University. He was named president of the university on November 15, 2016.
