Stacy Abbott Parkinson is a native Kansan who attended Goddard public schools. She earned a degree from the University of Kansas and a law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law.
She married Mark Parkinson on March 7, 1983. They have three children: Alex, Sam, and Kit. Her husband served as 47th lieutenant governor of Kansas from 2007 to 2009. After the resignation of Governor Kathleen Sebelius, he became the 45th governor of Kansas, and she was First Lady. Serving in that capacity from 2009 to 2011, she helped promote reading and literacy, and the Kansas Clean Indoor Air initiative, which became law in 2010.
She has worked as an attorney in the public and private sectors, and with her husband in operating assisted living and nursing facilities. She is active in community and charitable organizations, church, and asa volunteer gallery guide at the Newseum in Washington, D. C.
