Authors and Writers from Kansas

From the time Kansas opened for settlement people writers shared their experiences in literature. During the early turbulence of Bleeding Kansas and the Civil War much of these expressions dealt with antislavery or proslavery sentiments. The state's Libraries emerged to encourage people to read and learn. They collected books that documented Kansas' past through the settlement period to present day, newspapers that covered daily events, poetry from cowboys on the trail, and stories of the state and her people. Kansas authors and writers have contributed to the understanding and richness of our Kansas history. Learn more about these prominent writers from Kansas.
