Historic preservation collection
The State Historic Preservation Office at the Kansas Historical Society maintains records related to several historic preservation programs. Some of these records are available online, others are available by appointment.
These include the nominations to the National Register of Historic Places and Register of Historic Kansas Places. These files include the nominations, most of which are online, related correspondence, photographs, and research notes if applicable.
The Kansas Historic Resources Inventory (KHRI) is available online and fully searchable. The KHRI contains information gathered during a reconnaissance or intensive-level survey and includes the methodology, survey findings, historic context information, and recommendations for further action.
The historic preservation library is available online and contains publications on archeology, architectural styles, trade catalogs, historic preservation, and studies.
The historic preservation collection is available to research by appointment. Please contact 785-272-8681, ext. 240, or kshs.shpo@ks.gov.
