Jesse Chisholm
(1806-1868)
- Born in Tennessee, of Cherokee descent
- Before Civil War, operated trading posts in what is now western Oklahoma
- Called the man with a straight tongue because he could be trusted
- Indian trader, guide, and interpreter
- Chisholm Trail named for him, which ran cattle from Texas to the Kansas railheads
