Guided Tours
Tour guides are available to lead you through the Capitol and share its rich history with you. Tours are provided by the Kansas Historical Society and available through the Kansas State Capitol Visitors Center.
Historic tour - The tour's highlights include murals by David H. Overmyer and John Steuart Curry, the State Library, the governor's ceremonial office, the Old Kansas Supreme Court, and spectacular legislative floor spaces—Senate Chamber and Representative Hal.
Dome tours - Dome tours are currently not available. This tour is breathtaking—literally—with 296 steps and no elevator. The elaborate architecture is highlighted with close up views of the inner and outer domes. The summit offers a unique perspective of the city of Topeka. Participants who reach the cupola earn bragging rights. Souvenir merchandise is available in the Capitol Store on ground level.
Reservations for guided tours are strongly encouraged, especially during the legislative session between January and May. The tour is free but the size of each tour group is limited due to space regulations.
