Civil War pamphlets on microfiche

A studio portrait of two members of the First Kansas Volunteer InfantryThe CIVIL WAR PAMPHLETS ON MICROFICHE (KSHS microfiche no.186) represents 1,758 pamphlet titles from the collections of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. These pamphlets--an inexpensive medium in the 19th century for expressing opinion--reflect the generation-long battle of words that exacerbated the economic, ideologic, and political divisions between the North and the South and culminated in the Civil War.

Researchers will find a treasure-trove of primary sources--biographies, campaign literature, government documents, journals, maps, sermons, speeches and the like--that illustrate the opinions and attitudes that led to war, and that war's impact on American history.

A listing of the general topics of the pamphlets follows. Selecting any topic brings up a listing of the pamphlet titles in ATLAS.
